Sudhir Mishra

Kaun hain Sudhir Mishra

Remember the laugh riot of the century, ‘Jaane bhi do Yaaron’? This man wrote it!

You really have to breathe cinema to make some like his. To choose subjects that other storytellers are scared to touch! To create stars out of unknown actors. Meet Sudhir Mishra, a man humble enough to confess that he does not take advice for ‘Box-office hits’.

He hails from the city of Nawabs, Lucknow. This son of the founder member of the Lucknow Film Society, started romancing cinema pretty early. As early as his childhood days. Years passed and like every young and bright Lucknow boy, he too was sent to the Delhi University where the theatre bug bit him. And bit quite bad! After graduating, he formed a theatre group called Workshop Theatre and staged several plays. And later on sibling love took him to FTII, Pune, where his brother was a student! He spent a lot of time there. And no! He never studied there.

Come 1980 and our Lucknow boy moved to Mumbai. His cinematic journey started with co-writing the comedy classic ‘Jaane bhi do yaaron’. The genius was followed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho’ in 1984 and Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘Khamosh’ in 1985. He unleashed his genius further in his directorial debut Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin in 1987 that won a National Award. And even the French Government couldn’t hold back from honouring the man. In 2010, he was honoured with Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

A man who looks old but is younger than most. Unravels the mysteries of love, sensuality and the dark parts of the heart that we all fear to delve into. Watch him here as he bares his heart about his life, his stories, his journey and the road ahead.
